a dual core is just like a dual processor machine.
considering that asterisk is a multithreaded application, a dual core
should run much better than a single core.
now, intel based systems are not as good as AMD64 for Input/output, but
the intel processors are better for raw calculation.
depending on your use you should select one or the other.
