I did not have issues not reports of this.
But my vote goes for "Vous avez XX anciens messages"
The use of "archives" can be confusing if the user created other folders.

Note: that will break prompts (vm-Old saying archivés).
since that will be x archivés messages, but these prompts are not
official anyways.
