Most of the times when a question is basic or elementary, your question belongs on the asterisk-users mailing list. The development list is for development of the asterisk application itself, not the development of external apps that use asterisk. Think of it like this, why would a person who just picks up a phone care to subscribe to a mailing list about how to use the phone. You as the administrator of the application controlling that phone would be interested in how to use asterisk.
