I've been planning to do that, though I'm not going to do anything until it's actually removed. Anything we do in the future will probably be here: https://github.com/InterLinked1/phreakscript It'll likely start by reversing the patches that remove chan_sip, and then adding features that have been added to it after the cutoff deadline for new features earlier this year (similar to what's done there now, currently). I largely don't use chan_sip anymore but there is enough need/want for it (with likely lots of people trying to do the  same thing) that I see that it makes sense for supporting there. Obviously, nothing about this would be "officially supported"...

Hi Michal,

I would recommend you loop up with other users/developers who still need chan_sip and start a new repo for it.  It probably won't be officially endorsed by Sangoma/Asterisk but it's definitely possible to keep it alive with the right team.

Hello all,

chan_sip has been deprecated in Asterisk 17 and there is a plan to remove it in 21 (expected next year).
https://issues.asterisk.org/jira/browse/ASTERISK-29567

However, we still have many things depending on chan_sip, and its replacing with chan_pjsip needs significant amount of work and testing, depending on other parties too. I'm thinking how to continue using chan_sip in the next years, while keep using latest asterisk source (master branch).

Would it be possible to postpone the removal from Asterisk by several versions?

Or to move chan_sip to a separate repository and let it exist there - like libpri, libss7, dahdi, etc?

Thank you in advance.
