I checked that; the directories point to the correct places.

As I mentioned in a follow-up message, "strace" shows that my system doesn't even try to load the modules. I can "load app_playback.so", etc., followed by "load pbx_config.so" to get a dialplan -- but then the system doesn't find the voice files, and doesn't even try to find the voice files.

autoload=yes in /etc/asterisk/modules.conf.

I welcome any suggestions. Because of the Sabbath I haven't had an opportnity to figure out how to attach ddd to the correct aseterisk process to debugh file.c. I am using the CVS of 06-13 (Friday).
