While it may be possible, I won't comment on the technical side of thatWhile this is true most of the time, it fails in cases where the so-called "Enterprise"-Distributions are used. SuSE does still provide fixes for this particular system and it was actually chosen because of the long-time support. IIRC Suse provides support and fixes for these Enterprise Products for at least 5 years.

Linux distros are free, and upgrading to a new distro is probably
preferred so you don't risk any exploits on that machine. If you are
using it in production for some other task, you may wish to rethink what
is critical to you. Also don't count on backwards compatibility as you
never know when it will be ripped out of a new distro, and the newer
distro would be preferred over the old one even if the newer one is a RH
X.0 release.
Upgrading this machine to a newer Release of the Email-Server productline will be pretty costly. I guess I�ll have to take a dedicated machine for * then.
