PRI. A voice T1 will require at least 1 ring, and possibly a bit of time for any DID or ANI information to be passed via DTMF where as PRI passes the data out of band and the "ring" is really out of band also. This allows your application to answer on 0 rings instead of 1 ring. This alone made some of our clients unhappy as we passed certain calls to a different computer that required 1 ring also to answer. Also in some states like where I am, you get a break on the taxes for a PRI due to the fact that a PRI is considered a bulk purchase as opposed to 24 line items. From my limited knowledge, and their limited documentation, it didn't look very useful for what asterisk needs. If you are referring to why isn't X supported, it is probably because no one with X has written the driver or it isn't supported by the linux kernel. If you are referring to why do you have to pay for Dialogic support, Dialogic has not open sourced their drivers and there fore you need to use the non-GPLed version of asterisk to support the non open sourced driver.
