Here's a clip of comments lifted from a Cisco bug list. This will be perhaps useful to those of you who have just purchased a Cisco phone off eBay.

(1) Short problem description:
Documentation on how to load SIP image on phone with skinny software

(2) Longer problem description (what happens):
If the phone is loaded with the Cisco Skinny code, then there is a small problem with loading SIP images that are over 4K in size. This is caused by the Skinny code having a 4K tftp buffer. So if you look at the latest images P0S3-04-1-00.bin is 449K in size, if you try and load this file the tftpboot will hang when the buffer is full. At present there is NO error message and you have to look at a sniffer trace to see the error message.

(3) Possible solution (what did you expect):
Information in the documentation on how to do this.

(5) Workaround used currently (if applicable):
A simple procedure is.....
Download the SIP image P0S30203.bin and the rest of the files that are needed (OS79XX.txt/SIPDefault.cnf/SIPDefaultGeneric.cnf/ringer1.pcm/ringer2.pcm/dialplan.xml/RINGLIST.DAT)

Change OS79XX.TXT file to contain P0S30203
Power cycle the phone so that it will load the new image
Once the phone is loaded with P0S30203 you can then download SIP image P0S3-04-3-00.bin into the TFTPBOOT directory and either change the SIPmacaddress.cnf file to load this image, or change OS79XX.TXT file to reflect this image.

Do NOT rename this file, it should appear as P0S3-04-3-00.bin otherwise the phone will continuously reload.
