Great advice. Fortunately it is 3rd level support to telco customers.

A developer who does support?  One or the other will be short-changed.
I recommend you hire a *good* developer (at appropriate pay) and a
*good* support person.  I doubt you'll find many *good* developers who would
agree to do anything but 3rd level support while maintaining full
development load.
