chan_modem has been obsoleted in 1.2. Unless you are specifically using it,
you should edit /etc/asterisk/modules.conf to prevent it loading.
There is something not quit right with this. I just installed cvs-head
from scratch and had the same problem. Noloading chan_modem did not
resolve the issue, so I had to go back to the makefile and uncomment
the stuff as well. Runs fine now.
Try noload'ing all the chan_modem* modules as well
noload => chan_modem.so
noload => chan_modem_i4l.so
noload => chan_modem_bestdata.so
noload => chan_modem_aopen.so
