do you have the folder /lib/modules/<kernel-version-here>/misc/ ?? and if so, you must have there the wcxxx drivers. If not, then trying to compile zaptel again and look for errors installing.

What about systems that use /etc/modprobe.conf?  depmod should handle it
but it doesn't work when I tried it either but then again I haven't
given this a lot of thought...
