pretty kills my chances.
Next question then: any of you know of a Vitual Fax service that could
whitelabel for me?

FAXing doesn't work over Voice-over-IP channels. Or, hardly ever works.
Or, works occasionally but unreliably. Check the spandsp FAQ.
