Yeah its a bit silly right now. Its obvious this is not originally intended as a general purpose device, it was primarily designed as an ATA to bundle with the global village voip service.
Maybe in the future the firmware will support the fxo in a way that is actually useful to asterisk. But right now this device is basically useless for asterisk except as a very basic ATA FXS gateway.
