This depends greatly on the quality of your PSTN line and the distance from the CO (central office). In my case, with a two wire loop over 15000 feet, I definitely had echo issues that made cheapo FXO unusable.
Although with a Digium card, you also have the option of using software based echo cancellation. I have no experience with that.
