Be very careful here. I work in this industry and can tell you that certain alarm formats are VERY sensitive to VoIP. Your best bet is to avoid it until the industry comes up with an Alarm-over-IP standard. It may work today and not tomorrow. It may work over long distance numbers, but not over 800 numbers. It gets weird. Personally, I blame the cost-saving efforts of our friendly neighborhood telcos...
