But it would not be neccessary any transcoding as both parties planned to use the same g729 codec.

By the way I also noticed if there is a SIP INVITE sent by a specific codec order (different from the one asterisk has) through asterisk then asterisk will allways forward this SIP INVITE to the called party with its(asterisk) codec preference order (so not with the original order).

(I traced the message conversation with ethereal)

Maybe misconfigured something but really this happens.

Asterisk does not support transcoding G723.1. If you want to transcode G729 then you need a G729 license from Digium.

Hi,

 I set a preference order of the codecs to my sip.conf

/[general]
port = 5060 ; Port to bind to
bindaddr = 0.0.0.0 ; Address to bind to
context = default ; Default for incoming calls of not registered phones
*disallow = all
allow = g729
allow = g723
allow = alaw
allow = ulaw*/

** Connected a 'Sipura SPA' sip phone to asterisk with g729 as its preferred codec.

 Problem: asterisk cannot make the connection:

*set_format: Unable to find a codec translation path from alaw to g729*

** Connection only can be made if the Sipura's preferred codec is alaw/ulaw.

 Any help appreciated
