The avaya softphone (an entitlement in recent versions of the PBX)  will dial from outlook and allows clicking of phone numbers from within web based content.  I'm not sure it works from other office apps, though.

Although MS claims for SIP standards compliance, their UM products are
still using proprietary protocols. I can't register my x-lite with an
LCS or use the MS communicator together with my SER proxy. So it's all
or nothing, either you're an MS shop from A to Z or you can't really use
their UM offerings.
