Hope I explain this right but although HT creates the notion of 2 processors it still has only one FPU. Any transcoding done on a box with HT turned on will make both processors compete for that one FPU which does not help latency etc. So I just turn it off. If you want good FPU capabilities for transcoding go for an Opteron box.
