If you are using a PRI you should be getting a cause code back.
If it is T1 or analog, you only get audio, which as you stated, is not good enough for your test.

We are trying to set up a script that will test hundreds of toll free numbers to ensure that they correctly terminate at our Nortel PBX. We have the perl scripting written to dial the numbers and it works like a charm except for one problem. We are not sure how to detect whether a successful call was answered by our Nortel PBX or was answered by AT&T’s network telling us the number is not in service. To Asterisk both are completed successful calls. Obviously this is not correct. Can Asterisk detect if the answer was by a PBX or the telco Network? If so how? What should we be looking for? Is there a variable that contains any data that would indicate the difference?

Thanks
