http or tftp provisioning is what you do in this type of business. I can't imagine how can one do this business without using remote provisioning. PAP2 devices have excellent support for http, https and tftp. Using remote provisioning, you can easily control their ports, DIDs and all configuration parameters, and customers don't need to go through any setup at all.
I am not in residential business, but for the phones I administer, I rely completely on remote provisioning.
