Would you be willing to share your blacklist for the kernel modules?

Have you considered compiling a custom kernel for your hardware rather than not loading modules? It's something I've always done from day 1 with Linux (some 10 years back now!) That way I get exactly what I need and no more, and the only modules I have are the wctdm & zap ones.

It's not everyones cup of tea though - especially when using a distributing that you need to keep "standard" for external support purposes.

Have a look at http://www.drogon.net/config.2950 for a Linux 2.6.x kernel .config file for a Dell 2950 which has an on-board PERC (+6 SATA drives on a SAS bus) and Broadcom Ethernet - some have Fusion MPT SCSI controllers I think, so you might have to change the SCSI device drivers to suit. lspci is your friend here. (At least I think this is for a 2950 - the machine is physically remote from me and it's been some weeks since I've seen it and I'm going from memory here!) However, it'll be a good starting point.

(Incidentally, I'm not running asterisk on a Dell - this is just from a Dell server I manage for one of my clients)
