Looks like _I'm_ the one that needs to read the documentation. I thought you could pick up a ringing Zaptel channel. But, I couldn't get it to work on my 1.4.2 system. I could pick up the Sip device that was told to ring when the Zap channel rings, but I could not pick up the Zap channel itself. I'm guessing that would be the same problem with your IAX as well.
