I agree that a trace will be the next step. It isn't clear from the error
whether the problem occurred between Asterisk and the phone, or asterisk and
the SIP service provider. (Sometimes when I attempt to place calls via this
provider, I get a spoken error message from the provider stating that my call
cannot be connected and that I should try again later).

Naturally, as both Asterisk and the phone are behind NAT, my router is also
involved.
