centos 5 (as well as 4.5) have a lot of extras geared towards the enterprise, and that is fine if your server is running * and a bunch of other stuff on a high end machine. on the other hand if you are going to run a dedicated * box, I suggest taking a look at the latest Debian - Etch. The debian server install (no gui) is extremely lean, I am talking lean enough to run comfortably on a PII 400 Mhz 256 Meg. Obviously, you will need more horsepower if you plan to do much transcoding or if the box needs to support a db server and/or apache. Here is a good reference for installing on debian Etch: http://www.voip-info.org/wiki/view/Asterisk+Linux+Debian and a limited & abbreviated reference for the same : http://nooss.org/wiki/Installing_Asterisk_on_Debian_From_Source -- _______________________________________________ --Bandwidth and Colocation Provided by http://www.api-digital.com-- asterisk-users mailing list To UNSUBSCRIBE or update options visit: http://lists.digium.com/mailman/listinfo/asterisk-users
