Oops. I wasn't looking at the error message carefully. 

It fails at the ioctl ZT_SPANSTAT . 

Which brings up two questions:

1. How can that fail?
2. Why isn't get_alarms() used to get alarms on a span / channel?

Anybody (regarding (1), that is)?
