Irqbalance is a good idea BUT some kernel (and some driver) is not so happy to the "irq affinity change". The right idea is to disable IRQBALANCE, to assign at boot che irq to one physical CPU (remember HT and multicore CPU share the same IO). And also, some Linux kernel is so bad that freeze with irqbalance running. :-) Bye.
