That's how it is supposed to be called, but it obviously isn't working
as it should. I'm not really a developer, but in reading through the
source code, I see that it *should* set a bunch of channel variables on
the channel. In my tests, it's not doing that.
I've just opened a bug[1] on the bug tracker, and hopefully someone
smarter than I am will figure out why it's not working correctly.
