It should be added that using the Java platform with Asterisk-Java for AGI (and AMI) development also offers an easy way to use a whole variety of other languages that run on the JVM. These include Scala, JavaScript, Groovy, Ruby (JRuby), Python (Jython), PHP (through Quercus) and BeanShell to only name a few.
