There are embedded Astrisk distros like Astlinux that target small form factor hardware. They have distributed the standard prompts in various encodings for quite some time. I think that they may have been amonst the first to do so. Platforms like the Soekris Net4801 could only sustain a couple of G.729 transcodes, making native prompts a practical necessity.
