Looks like it's possible to modify some of the old BT Caller Display units with nothing more than about a fivers worth of parts all in. I'll put it in the 'rainy day' project list. If PSTN was more of an issue I'd go with the card you suggest - it's just not a big enough deal to worry with it - but thanks.
