FYI, you could run a second, third, 4th, etc. asterisk on the same box with the sole purpose of the "other" asterisks being to serve up the IAX connection and custom voicemail capability. Or the "second" asterisk could run an AGI to reload voicemail.conf for each caller, changing maxmessage on an individual or group basis. I do a similar thing with AMI - I keep it turned off except for 10 min each morning when I enable to do line testing.
