Once an option is set in the chan_dahdi.conf file it applies to every channel
=> line listed after the setting, until the option is changed. This is all you
really know.

   If you come across it, please let me know because other than getting a hint
somewhere after 2 hours of googling, I would not have known.

>>And aren't the characteristics 'cumulative' ?

   Can't tell you. You seem to hint that they are cumulative, although as far
I tested, they weren't.

characteristic-a = foo
characteristic-b = bar
channel = 1

characteristic-b = bar
channel = 2

channel 1 has foo and bar. Channel 2 has bar only. ...(?)

In any case, my approach was not to take any chances and make sure all
characteristics I use are cleared of any previous values in each channel
declaration

        (I'm sure its written somewhere, I just can't be bothered to look right
        now.)

        Wouldn't it be more accurate to say you specify the characteristics and
        then specify the channels the characteristics apply to?

        And aren't the characteristics 'cumulative' such that

        characteristic-a = foo
        characteristic-b = bar
        channel = 1

        characteristic-b = baz
        channel = 2

        results in channel 1 having foo and bar while channel 2 has foo and baz?
