the same error, I write your commands:
mkdir /var/ext_tmp
export TMPDIR=/var/ext_tmp
make
but the same error happens
/usr/bin/ld: final link failed: No space left on device
collect2: ld devolvió el estado de salida 1
make[2]: *** [asterisk] Error 1
make[1]: *** [main] Error 2
make[1]: se sale del directorio «/home/ubuntu/Downloads/asterisk-11.2.1»
make: *** [_cleantest_all] Error 2

Try to set the tmp variable. In your case:
mkdir /var/ext_tmp
export TMPDIR=/var/ext_tmp
make
