Thank you to Matthew and Alvin for their comments. I tried rpm -Uvh http://packages.asterisk.org/centos/6/current/x86_64/RPMS/asterisknow-version-3.0.1-2_centos6.noarch.rpm but that produced the same result.
After some more digging, I found apparent package conflicts between asterisk and the epel repository.
