IPTraf is a neat tool but, information it gives should be taken with a grain of salt. If you're looking at "general" statistics, it is going to show you the combined IN+OUT as IPTraf sees it. This IN+OUT is never accurate from what I've seen in my tests. I don't know if it isn't counting encapsulation overhead or what its problem is but it is flat out wrong in almost every instance.
Now, for looking at flows through/to a box, it is great. Just don't bank on the bandwidth stats being accurate.
I've seen the errors I'm talking about on eth, gige, and ATM OC3 interfaces so, it's not specific to any one interface type.
