thanks for the reply, i thought it may be a stupid question but if i hit 
either hook buttons i do not get  any result when in a call. if i press 
the hangup button it hangs up, press the pick up button and nothing 
happens :-(

that is why i thought I was doing something silly or not understanding 
something.

It is a panasonic dect phone
