John this has not been possible to do in the past only pre-registering using a mac address which as you can imagine is a pain in the A$%.
However there is a new wifi phone about to be released in Australia from a korean manufacturer that has alphanumeric name and password capability with up to 6 hot spot providers stored in a list that you can scroll up and down to. I'm sure something local to you will be available in the coming months. Check you email for the pdf (lol and my invoice for consulting advice), I cant post a url before anyone asks it isn't released yet this was just sent to me the other day. What I'm looking for is a 802.11 SIP phone that will auto detect the closest wireless network(s), offer a list to select from, then auto configure itself using dhcp. If you think about it this could be quite handy when strolling around in populated areas. Could someone suggest any such hardware? -Galt -- "They that would give up essential liberty for temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety."
