When listening to GSM-compressed voice prompts from either G.729 or iLBC codec, the sound quality is distinctly sub-optimal due to the use of multiple transcoding.Would sox sound.gsm sound.au help a little bit?
This should help with CPU usage, but not with actual sound quality - it's not possible to undo the compression artefacts :/
