When upgrading from a previous version -- to 7 (which now uses the universal bootloader) -- it will take the P00 firmware to start up with
P003-07-0-00. Which is default in the unzipped file from Cisco.

Change it to
P0S3-07-0-00 (or P0S3-07-1-00 if you are using 7-1-00) and it will quit saying "Invalid application license" (or something to that effect)

The p00 is a special firmware/bootstrap for the phone to upgrade to the newest software, then you switch over to P0S.
Cisco has some documentation on there site about this... I'll hunt it down if you need me to.

you need to go:
v2
v2.1
v2.3
v4.0
v6.0

i recently succeeded in 2, 2.3, 6, 7.1, and am happy with 7.1 on a number of units.

v7.0 doesnt work properly i have found

could you be more specific?
