I went into the sources of the zaptel driver and removed enclosing
comments from some #defines which relate to ISDN terminal adapters,
then rebuilt zaptel.

There are also some parameters you can play with. Even if you don't
know what the parameters mean, the technical support of the vendor of
the ISDN terminal adapter should recognise them and be able to give
you some hints what values might give you better results.

YMMV, but this has stabilised the situation for our customer.
