I never stripped my tags and things work fine for me. I had problems at first too with MOH. My problem was due to how I was copying over the files. I was copy via FTP using the command line in Linux. However, if you do not explicitly state binary as the copy method, it will copy the files over using ASCII. Doing so mungs the whole MOH player and never worked right. Issueing the binary command at the ftp command prompt prior to pulling the files to my asterisk box solved the problem for me. I do not know your method of copying to your server but this may be your problem if you are using FTP.
