If you ask me it doesnt' work well nomatter what kind of line you have.

VoIP (IAX/SIP/H323), PRI, and T-1/E-1 do not need callprogress. The telco provides everything required for progress detection. Analog ports don't (usually) provide this and so callprogress is needed.
