I did do the instructions outlined in the readme.linux26 for FC2. Below is
the error I get when I try to dail out.

The problem is here. Channel type ''
So in your extensions.conf you probably have
exten => _9X.,1,dial(${EXTEN:1})
when it needs to be either
exten => _9X.,1,dial(ZAP/g1/${EXTEN:1})
for group 1 or
exten => _9X.,1,dial(ZAP/1/${EXTEN:1})
to dial out ZAP 1
