The install script patches all the sources, it will not work if you try to compile just one module, you need a recompiled * too.
I had trouble compiling it on modified RedHat Enterprise Linux sources. If it still doesn't compile, try using a plain vanilla kernel.

The bristuff package has scripts to download and compile everything you need. It will be wise to deinstall the debian packages, yes.

I'm trying to get it all compiled, but it gives me errors. something about unknown symbols.
