Suggestion would be to get a 2 line phone. Line 2 could always be plugged into the line. The reason I suggest this is that you have another potential problem to be concerned about. Think power failure just long enough to freak out the PC without tripping your device. Then you are left with the line still seized by the PC but without service either. Actually there could be any number of potential troubles you will run into without tripping your device.
