Not bizarre at all when you look up what the command you're typing is
supposed to do, rather than what you assumed it should do.

To see what phones have registered with your Asterisk server, use

sip show peers

To see what other servers yours has registered with, use

sip show registry

http://www.voip-info.org/wiki-Asterisk+CLI is a useful reference, as
is 'help sip' in the CLI.
