I think I can answer for Ed; the calling party does know you've answered as the ring changes (certainly in my case). More importantly, I use this at home and I don't want people getting charged with a call charge for an unanswered call. Of course once it goes to voicemail that's another matter but it's already rung for 20-25 seconds.
