But, in most cases, it requires a recompile of your kernel (rtc is used by default in most kernels, as most kernels are precompiled to use SMP). There is also realzap, but that requires setting up the finicky Realtime Application Interface (RTAI). So, realistically, there's four timing sources: - - zaptel - - ztdummy - - zaprtc - - realzap They are required for conferencing (meetme), and IAX trunking. So, I would assume if you don't have a need for either one of those applications, you wouldn't need the timer, and you can safely ignore the warning on startup.
