Running an X client in asterisk box might be ok to display it in a remote X server.
afaik, the no-go is for X server running locally in same box as Asterisk.

Running X on an Asterisk box is, I think, a dumb idea. Numerous time on this list it's been said to be a "no-go"
You can also edit files remotely via sftp (don't use ftp :-) ). You'll
find many familiar environments that support that.
And on windows, you can use WinSCP : http://winscp.net/eng/index.php
On Linux, I found that Konqueror can be used with the "fish://" protocol
