Currently, I am using VoIP service from rogers here in School lab.
I can make calls from my sip and iax soft phone to asterisk server by
some preconfigured numbers ( like 100,1,2000, etc. ) but I have
followign concerns.

How can I connect my asterisk server to my VoIP service provider
network(VoIP
gateway) to reach to the outside world ?
Do I need to ask to my VoIP service provider for that ? for username and
password because I am not administrator here and being a student I am
not aware about that. :) I will have to ask to my network administrator.
:)

Please, respond me as soon as possible so that I can proceed in my
school project and make my prof happy ! :)

Cheers,
Samir.

Samir, you really need to do your own research to make your prof
happy... But in the mean time:

To connect to the outside world, you can either connect to the PSTN by
using a T1/E1 or Analog interface card (Although a DS3 is also available
but a little over your scope),
Or you can connect using a VOIP gateway like Voxee or Rogers.

Rogers should of supplied you with a SIP login and password to connect
with, you will need to modify your dialplan to send all numbers in the
range you wish to dial to Rogers.

My extensions.conf looks like this:

;I dial using Voxee, and prefix my calls with a "5":
[voxee]
exten => _51NXXNXXXXXX,2,Dial,IAX2/[EMAIL PROTECTED]/${EXTEN:1}
exten => _5011.,2,Dial,IAX2/[EMAIL PROTECTED]/${EXTEN:1}

My IAX.conf looks like this:
[voxee-outbound]
type=friend
context=foo
secret=*******
host=66.246.246.52
disallow=all
allow=ulaw
allow=alaw
allow=gsm
allow=ilbc

This is an IAX example, and not a SIP example, you should be able to
reseach how to make a SIP connection with this to give you an example.
